Choose the perfect pumpkins
Pumpkins are undoubtedly the very symbol for Halloween, so to prove is Halloween is happening for your family, you first need to pick pumpkins for your doorstep. Pumpkins are easily found in supermarkets, farm shops and pick your own pumpkin farms which are very popular now. Pumpkins come in a variety of colours and sizes, so you definitely have lots of choice and can pick pumpkins based on your family’s lifestyle and preferences.
Get creative and ask family members what kind of pumpkin and carving style would prefer so that you can buy pumpkins that suit with their taste. Will it be scary faces or child-friendly sculptures or even detailed artwork. After choosing the perfect pumpkins, you can start the fun of carving them.
Decorate the house
Wearing a spooky costume is not the only way to grab attention this Halloween – decorating your home with terrifying crafts is also an ingenious manner to impress passers-by.
You can create these decorations together, as it is inexpensive and an excellent opportunity for everyone to express their creativity. The variety of frightening objects you can make by hand is limitless; consider anything from monsters and ghosts to spiders made out of origami or bats made from recycled materials.
Not only can each family member work on these spooky crafts, but you can also assemble them together. So, make sure you select the best place for every decoration, light, or object to make this day even spookier.
Go trick or treating
On 31st October, thousands of individuals slip into the night as witches, zombies and ghosts. Family members bond with each other watching scary movies, telling tales of ghosts and witches, legends (and we all know each legend has a grain of truth), carving pumpkins and, of course, going trick or treating.
Trick-or-treating is a fun tradition for anyone, whether adults or children, so consider going into the night as a group. Making trick-or-treating a family affair is an excellent opportunity to spend quality time together and visit your neighbours; not to mention the joy of wearing your fun costumes.
Dressing up and exploring the local neighbourhood in search of delicious sweets and treats is, without a doubt, an enticing experience, but make it safe, too. If you are accompanied by or have to look after friends or neighbours’ kids, take your responsibility seriously and ensure every child is safe by taking torches and even a hi- vis jacket, or ensure you walk well-lit streets. For local walks with younger children or if you have a baby to consider, pushchairs from Maxi-Cosi are ideal to make the evening run smoothly especially as you may be out later than usual.
In case you are responsible for a toddler, it may be easier to get around the area by car. As long as you remember to take nursery essentials and have a baby car seat in place, it can still be be fun.
Going trick or treating with children is your chance to teach the little ones all about sharing and giving. Indeed, it is lovely when you get goodies from the neighbours, but sharing them or passing out sweets to trick-or-treaters is even more rewarding!
Bake spooktacular treats
One of the main reasons people love this holiday so much is that they get delicious goodies from their friends and neighbours. But Halloween is not only about receiving; you also need to give something back. So, it is time for baking! Gather your family in the kitchen and start baking your spooky treats.
You can prepare everything from mummy biscuits and monster eyeball cake pops to chocolate stuffed Jack-o-lantern cupcakes and witches finger sausages. The variety of ideas is so broad that it is impossible not to find something to your taste. One thing is for sure – every one of you is going to have a great time. Not every day you bake strawberry ghosts or black cat cookies. Yes, there is a lot to clean up afterwards, but the results are hopefully worth every second spent in the kitchen.
Watch scary movies and cartoons
Those dark evenings mean there is finally time for reruns of Monster Inc, Coraline, Harry Potter and Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. Or maybe you prefer a throwback to Gremlins or Ghostbusters. No matter your preferences, this is the perfect time to watch your favourite family Halloween movies and cartoons.
At least one night before trick-or-treating, reserve the time to watch a themed movie. You can spice up the atmosphere by serving some of your homemade cakes and treats. This is a great chance to create a special bond between each and every one of you, so do not skip it!
If you want to make the night extra special, you can rent a TV to enjoy a big-screen movie experience right at home. Gather some cozy blankets, dim the lights, and let the spooky fun begin!
Are you ready for the spooky season?
Whether you choose to trick or treat or hold a party at home and be that neighbour who delights trick-or-treaters with tasty biscuits or sweets, you can have a great Halloween as a family if you consider these tips.
