Beach Saunas on the Jurassic Coast
Where to find saunas on the beach in Dorset and Devon
Saunas on the sand are definitely a thing now, and if you’ve been wondering where to find them along the stunning Jurassic Coast, I’ve done the research (and a bit of testing, all in the name of work, obviously).
A few years ago saunas were confined to expensive spas or hotels. Now you can enjoy the experience with friends in a much more relaxed way. A birthday treat, a hen do or combined with a sea swim. Here in Devon and Dorset seaside saunas are popping up all along the coast and if you go with a few friends it’s a really affordable treat.
Explore these beach saunas from Poole to Exmouth, your guide to Jurassic Coast saunas with a view.
Why beach saunas are having their moment
There is a definite growing trend of outdoor beach saunas. It offers a bit of Scandi-style living right here on the south coast.
It has become a very popular thing to do after sea swimming and other outdoor activities like paddle boarding or even a good walk. Cold water therapy and wild swimming has many proven mental health benefits so it offers a great way to warm up.
However for many it’s just a lovely sociable activity to share with a partner or friends, so many of us are looking for experiences these days making it a great idea for a gift.

What to know about beach saunas before you go
- Booking is essential in most places.
- Most take a mix of private or shared bookings.
- Check if sessions are mixed gender or private if that is important to you.
- Check if there are changing facilities as many are on the beachside
- Many combine saunas with options with sea dips or wild swimming.
What to take for a sauna at the beach
- Take, or be ready changed in your swimwear
- 2 towels (one to sit on)
- Water – make sure you follow guidelines on how much to drink
- Flip-flops or sliders
- Clothes to change into afterwards – maybe a changing robe if you have one
- Leave jewellery at home as metal gets very hot in the sauna and may burn you.
Arrive at least 10 minutes before your session to ensure you don’t miss out on any of your allocated time. Research parking locations is you are not familiar with the area.
Are Saunas for Everyone?
Most saunas require customers to be over 16 and also complete a health / medical declaration before using the facilities.
If you have any health problems such as high blood pressure, asthma, kidney disease or are taking certain medications you will not be allowed to use a sauna.
Saunas are also not recommended for anyone pregnant.
