Family day out in Devon at Crealy Theme Park
If you are looking to have a fun family day out then heading to Crealy Teme Park in East Devon is sure to keep all the family entertained. Living not too far away means I have been taking my girls there since they were toddlers. It’s perfect for primary aged children with a range of indoor and outdoor play areas, gentle rides and animals to pet. But what about older children and teenagers? We discovered that there’s plenty for them to do as well, as we found out on a recent visit.
5 Best Attractions for Older Children at Crealy
1. The Twister
This is one of those rides that looks innocent enough, but once you get spinning you can’t help but hold on tight!
It’s a bit like a roller coaster version of the fun fair waltzer ride. Just keep an eye on the weather as this ride does not operate if it’s raining.
2. Tidal Wave Water Flume
You might want to leave this until the end of the day or make sure you take a water proof jacket.
A fun ride with a high speed splash at the end.
3. Vortex water Slide
Carry on the watery theme with these high speed slides.
Shoot down sitting on a small inflatable type raft with a choice of three slides – build up to take the twisting one in the dark if you are feeling adventurous.
4. Animal Barn
Whatever your age there is something endearing about animals.
Feed the goats, groom the ponies, or hold a giant African land snail. There’s also rabbits and guinea pigs to cuddle.
No-one’s ever too old for that!
Outside there are more animals to visit like the cute meerkats which have their own enclosure, as well as alpacas, wallabies and emus.
5. Adventure Zone Indoor Play Areas
Even on a rainy day kids of all ages can have fun. The large indoor play area gives plenty of opportunity to to climb, swing or slide. There are three drop slides to choose from, not for the faint hearted!
This is situated by the large indoor cafe, which is ideal for any parent who decides it’s time for a sit down and a coffee while the youngsters burn off any remaining energy!
Lots More To Do
So that’s just a taster of our favourite rides at Crealy. There’s lots more to choose from. Maximus the family friendly roller coaster, the Jolly Roger pirate boat swing (one for before lunch!) and fun water boats, as well as an outdoor area with a lake and wobbly bridges to explore. Oh and we love the traditional carousel.
Over the holidays there are always new seasonal extras to enjoy.
Seasonal Entertainment
With a permanent big top tent in place, Crealy offers extra fun shows throughout the year. Singers, children’s entertainers as well as seasonal themed shows and activities will really add to your day out.
Spring Shows
With the Sooty Show, Krazy Kev & Dinky Dino and Little Chix (Little Mix tribute band) all set to entertain you in February as well as a Peter Rabbit egg hunt, there’s plenty happening for the family.
Summer Spectacular
Back by popular demand for Summer is the Hydro High Dive! Hold your breath as you watch the Crealy brigade fight the fires and jump from heights of over 80ft into the pool below.
Halloween Fun
Look out for the extra Halloween fun during the autumn half term with attractions like the Scarecrow Scaremaze – a mysterious maze with lots of surprises lurking – enter if you dare! Enjoy the Creaky Hotel or follow the trail of the Tree House Trolls (all included in the usual entry price).
Fireworks at Crealy – the annual firework event takes place at the end of October, with selected rides opening late and a DJ live from 5pm.
Crealy Christmas Spectacular
The first Crealy Christmas Spectacular was a great success. Alongside a Christmas Ice Show, guests enjoyed a visit to Santa’s Magical Toy Shop, Mary Christmas’ Bakery, Rudy’s Reindeer Food Making Station, an indoor Christmas Market with a wide selection of unique gifts, a Christmas Craft Session, the Singing Snowman Show and Buddy & Blossom’s Seasonal Sing-a-long.

Even though our children are getting older, we still enjoyed our family day out in Devon at Crealy Adventure Park. There’s plenty of fun to be had even for a big kid like me! Find out more and buy tickets online here. If you are looking for more great family days then why not take a look at these other ideas for days out that we have enjoyed. There’s so much to do in the West Country.
Next on our list is Paulton’s Park near Southampton which also looks fun. It’s become famous for being the home to Peppa Pig World, I reckon my teens would still enjoy that!
Disclosure: I was provided with complimentary tickets for Crealy Theme Park in return for this review. All photos and words are my own (except for the Christmas and Halloween promotional elements).
