Getting Excited for Holidays and New Flights from Bristol Airport
I am tentatively starting to get excited about the prospects for travelling again and I know some of you have already taken the plunge. Our English summer has been a bit of a disappointment when it comes to sunshine and not being able to plan a holiday has been hard. If you have had to postponed or cancel a holiday last two years I know how you feel.
Living in the South West, the excitement of heading off on holiday is often dampened by the thought of having to travel to London. I know the travel is meant to be part of the fun, but I just wish I could be teleported to the destination. This has meant for our family, to avoid extra travel, Bristol Airport is our go to for short haul flights.
New Flights from Bristol Airport
Bristol is an excellent regional airport. It’s not too big and so not overwhelming when you check in. On our last trip with a very early start, I even treated us to a night at the hotel right by the airport.
I was really delighted when Jet2 got in touch and asked me to help share the news that they have added extra destinations from their latest UK base at Bristol. It’s prompted me to start looking at what’s on offer for short breaks. The thought of a possible European holiday with the family seems at lot more realistic now.

Where to Travel in Europe?
Holiday Inspiration
Over the years I have travelled a lot (often backpacking) and the Lonely Planet Guides have been my constant companion.
To get me in the mood for a holiday Jet2 have sent me some fabulous holiday gifts, and as if they read my mind, it included a Lonely Planet Where to Go When guide to Europe. It has great inspiration for off the beaten track travel, when to visit some of Europe’s best cities and where to find winter sun and beat the crowds.
Independent Travel or a Package Holiday
If you like a bit of independence to book your own accommodation, then you can also check out the flight only options. Our last family holiday was in Crete and we loved exploring the island, staying in a two different locations.
With pretty sandy beaches, ancient Greek history – you can explore the Palace of Knossos (home to the legend of the Minotaur), try delicious local food and of course soak up the sunshine, it’s a holiday destination with something for everyone.
Discover New Places in Spain and Greece
Looking through the destination list on the Jet2 website just gives me itchy feet. I had never heard of Reus in Spain, so I side-tracked to Google to learn more. It’s 70 miles South of wonderful city of Barcelona in North East Spain.
Reus is really close to the the city of Tarragona (Tárraco) which is a World Heritage site as it was a former Roman provincial capital, and it’s near the Port Aventura Water Park, perfect for kids. The area is also close to the region area that produces Cava (Spain’s champagne equivalent) and you can arrange tours of the vineyards. It sounds perfect with something for everyone.
Other less well know places include Preveza in North West Greece and Thessaloniki in North East Greece. Both have access to fabulous beaches and Greece is a great value destination.
Flights from Bristol to Menorca, Majorca and Ibiza
A few years ago I decided to return to Menorca with our children after remembering being taken there as a child myself. It’s a quieter island than some of the other Balearics but still with plenty for a weeks holiday.
We enjoyed lazy days on the beach, a visit to a waterpark and a trip to see the famous black horses at Son Martorellet. We didn’t actually see a show but were able to look around in the afternoon and saw them practicing.
This summer my parents are also off to Majorca, another of Jet 2’s popular Bristol destinations.
European City Breaks
I am also a fan of city breaks and for my last sunny holiday I took the girls to Sorrento and Ischia. Jet2 offers the option of city breaks in Naples which is the perfect base of this beautiful area. During the trip we explored the Amalfi Coast, trekked up Mount Vesuvius and had a few days on the natural thermal spa island of Ishcia (a real hidden gem). From Naples it’s easy to get a ferry to Ischia. Sorrento, the Island of Capri and further along the coast to Potisano.
I’ve spotted Dubrovnik on the list for next year as well as Verona, a great base to visit Venice from.
