How to Enjoy a Family Holiday in Cyprus
Cyprus has long been one of Europe’s prime holiday destinations, attracting around one million British sun-seekers every single year. One of the main reasons for its longevity near the top of every traveller’s wish-list, is that it attracts a vast range of visitors.
It’s a great place to visit for all ages. From party-pursuing students to elderly couples looking for a bit of winter sun. It is equally loved by families looking to give their children those special holiday memories.
In this post, we’ll look at some of the decisions you need to make to allow you to enjoy a family holiday in Cyprus, on this Mediterranean jewel.

When to Travel to Cyprus
Although it’s most commonly associated with summer holidays, Cyprus is one of the many destinations in Europe that can be enjoyed year round. Why not try in the Easter holidays or a week in May when you can enjoy the warm conditions without the peak summer time rush.
Fancy a Cypriot Christmas? There are so many festivals and activities to enjoy across the festive period. In fact, at this time of year the island transforms into a winter wonderland, with the capital of Nicosia becoming the hub for the festivities. Make the most of the Christmassy food and drinks stocked by the local cafes and restaurants, and find some new ways to enjoy the holidays by following some of the local Christmas traditions.
The temperatures will remain mild outside of the summer months, so there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy all that this beautiful island has to offer either side of the peak tourist season. Whatever time suits you best, you’re sure to have a memorable holiday.
Choose your Base
There are plenty of options right across the island, but the best spot for you will largely depend on the type of holiday you’re looking for, with different areas more suited to different styles.
When it comes to a family holiday, Coral Bay, Limassol, and Pernera are all great options. Each of these three resorts are located along the coast, so the little ones can benefit from having direct access to the sand and sea.
If you’re looking for a completely rural escape, consider the small village of Latchi in the northwest of the island.
Cyprus is one of the biggest islands in the Mediterranean, so it’s important to carefully select where you want to locate yourselves. But fear not, the island is very well connected, so choosing a base for the trip doesn’t mean you’re restricting yourself from exploring different regions.
Plan your Activities
Now comes the fun part – not just for the children. Cyprus is jam-packed with an endless list of amenities and activities to keep boredom and bay, and provide the entire family with memories to cherish.
For the more adventurous travelling party, take to the Mediterranean waters around the island and try out one of the many water sports on offer. Or, pack up your snorkelling gear and explore the subaquatic world off the coast – the crystal clear waters found at Coral Bay are perfect for a snorkelling adventure.
There is plenty more to explore back on dry land. Do your children fancy themselves as budding zoologists? Head to the modern Limassol Zoo, where they can explore different animals from across the globe, and learn more about the conservation efforts at the on-site education centre.
