Cherries Ice Cream Parlour in West Bay
I’ve been hearing a lot recently about intuitive eating. It’s all about having a healthy relationship with food, in very simple terms it’s eating when you are hungry and stopping when you start to feel full. Bringing the enjoyment back into food that many people have lost. Taking time and really tasting what you eat and appreciating it without feeling guilty. You listen to your body and decide when you’ve eaten enough, then stop.
With that in mind, a wet and windy August morning seemed like the perfect opportunity to take up an invitation to try out the new Cherries Ice Cream Parlour in West Bay. This was going to be a guilt free lunch and a chance to spend so quality time with my teenage girls.
Cherries Ice Cream Parlour opened in May this year having been transformed from a previous cafe. Inside it’s lovely and bright with more than a hint of candy floss pink.
With views over West Bay Harbour and conveniently close to the car parks it’s in a great location.
Bagels and All Day Breakfasts
Scanning the menu is was clear it would take a while to decide. If I had one of the delicious sounding bagels would I have room for an ice cream as well? The all day breakfast sounded pretty tempting too. Decisions decisions.
Well it would be rude not to. My bagel was a BLT and tasted delicious as it came with sort of chutney flavoured sauce. Annabel choose an all day breakfast that she was very happy with.
As well as bagels and sandwiches there were also specials such as beef chilli with nachos, scampi and fries or a pint of prawns.
Delicious Ice Cream Sundaes
As well as an extensive range of ice cream flavours, Cherries is a lovely place to enjoy coffee and cake or a full meal.
The staff were helpful and happy to make different combinations of the ice cream sundaes although there was a great list to choose from.
We went for a chocolate one and The Desert Island (pineapple and coconut with white chocolate). They were delicious and yes we ate it all. (for the record this a was a small one!) There was also a choice of 3 sorbets which pleased my dairy intolerant daughter.
Explore West Bay
So what are you waiting for? The cafe is easy to find just by the pretty harbour in West Bay and just a few hundred metres from the beach. It is a dog friendly cafe, you can even buy dog friendly ice cream!
It’s also close to the Discovery Centre, a small chapel converted into an interactive information centre where you can learn about the Jurassic Coast and history of West Bay. I have included the Discovery Centre on my Wet Weather Days Out in West Dorset guide.
On any other day a walk on the beach, round the harbour and out on the harbour wall to admire the amazing Jurassic Coast scenery would be highly recommended. I did go and have a quick look on the beach but was nearly blown away and the teens made straight for the car!
West Bay is buggy and wheelchair friendly.
There is also an excellent adventure play park at the entrance to West Bay by the large long stay car park. The header photo is my own but was taken on a better day.
