How to Combine Travelling with Remote Work

Having a job where you travel can be a dream come true. However, even dream jobs can come with their challenges.  Travelling for work can be very tiring and you may not have the opportunity to see all the sights or attractions as you planned or be staying in the best location.

When searching for jobs, you can find part-time positions with a workload based around weekends and evenings online job sites like Jooble.  There are plenty of options that may not include these challenges if you check the job description. Such job-searching sources share as much information as possible for you to research when applying. However even this information won’t protect you from the other drawbacks. Setting Priorities

As a remote worker, you will need to motivate yourself most of the time actually to do the work. With no official boss to turn to, the assignments you will be given are all organized by yourself.  You also need to ensure you keep on top of administration tasks such as ensuring you have up to date anti-virus software and use a secure network when online.

As well as scheduling free time, it can be hard to find days where you can fully concentrate on work without getting distracted.  Travelling from place to place is time consuming and just planning it can be a pretty big distraction at times. Be sure to plan accordingly to focus on work when necessary. Finding quiet places to base yourself or a whole morning or afternoon to concentrate during these times that you have decided should be for work will help.

Try Not to Work Too Much

This sounds like good advice and works in tandem with the point mentioned above!  With remote work, many of the positions will require you to sort out your own schedule.

While this may seem significant, agreeing to more tasks than necessary can be very easy as earning more money seems ideal. However you need to set enough time for yourself. After all, you are travelling to different places and want to experience that too. Put aside time to check out the sights before you set off to your next destination.

Limit Interruptions

The excellent news about remote working is that you won’t have co-workers or office banter to distract you.  However depending on where you are based,  you may have friends or a partner distracting you.

If you are working at home or house sharing, you will most likely see them more. The people you know will most likely not distract you on purpose. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It may not even be family members. Even a delivery driver can interrupt you. The best thing you can do is to explain your situation to who you know so that they can show understanding of your occupation.

Keeping In Touch

You will be exposed to different news networks when travelling, especially worldwide. This can sometimes make it difficult to stay up-to-date with what is happening in your hometown or home country.

Staying in touch can be done through various means of communication and the internet. Social media is a tremendous help when seeing what is happening worldwide.

You can filter your news by following certain figures or networks within these platforms. Keep in touch by emailing or calling people you know, so that you can be stay up to date on more personal matters from friends and family and don’t miss out.

Technology Mishaps

The remote worker usually relies on technological devices to get their work done. A laptop is a standard tool used by the self-employed. If any of the devices you use to suffer from technical difficulties, this will halt your progress severely.

As a remote worker, these are your problems to fix. This could cost you extra money depending on the equipment that needs fixing. Be sure to keep an eye on the maintenance of your devices and keep anti virus software up to date so that you can minimize issues occurring in the future.

Keeping Healthly

A big concern in remote work is that you forget to look after yourself. The job may include sitting down all day, not getting much physical activity or eating out a lot.

The advantage of travelling is that you may be able to walk around a lot to get your steps in. However, this won’t necessarily be enough for a healthy lifestyle. Keep an eye on what you eat and don’t rely too much on takeaways. Try fitting in some other exercises in your day. Here are some examples:  squats, lunges, push-ups, plank and star jumps.

Travelling and Remote Work

In summary working on the road can be the best job ever to have. As long as you overcome these issues, you can create a happy and fulfilling work-life balance.
